Honeycomb Calcite

The translucent stone I use for making wine racks is called Honeycomb Calcite.  I acquire this stone directly from its source in Utah Mountains.  I hand-select each raw piece and then transport these to my studio in Northern California for sculpting.  The chalky-white outer rind first needs to be chiseled away, before the intensity of colors are revealed.
